China Accuses Taiwan’s Ruling Party of Cyberattacks Against Mainland Tech Firm

Guangzhou: Chinese authorities accused Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on Tuesday of backing a hacker organization that carried out cyberattacks against a tech company in Guangzhou, the capital of China's Guangdong province, state-run media reported. The Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau's Tianhe District Branch stated that the cyberattacks occurred last week.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Global Times reported that a hacker group backed by DPP authorities executed the cyberattacks. Chinese authorities claimed the group frequently utilized publicly accessible internet asset scanning platforms to target more than 1,000 key network systems in over 10 provinces and regions on the mainland in recent years.

Chinese police noted a significant increase in the scale and frequency of the hacker group's attacks against mainland targets since 2024. They emphasized that the attacks demonstrated clear intentions of disruption and sabotage, reflecting malicious intent.

The Tianhe District Branch reported the situation to national departments and confirmed that the investigation would continue. Authorities are committed to bringing the relevant criminal groups and their masterminds to justice.
