Tottenham Sack Postecoglou Despite Europa League Triumph

London: Tottenham Hotspur on Friday announced that it has parted ways with head coach Ange Postecoglou, citing poor domestic results despite success in Europe. According to Anadolu Agency, the club conducted a review of performances and, after significant reflection, decided to relieve Postecoglou of his duties. The 58-year-old manager led Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years with a UEFA Europa League title on May 21, becoming only the third manager in club history to win a European trophy. The club expressed gratitude for Postecoglou's commitment and contribution during his two-year tenure, acknowledging his place in history as one of the few to deliver a European trophy to the team. However, his time at Spurs was marred by struggles in the English Premier League, where the team finished the 2023-24 season in 17th place, marking their worst-ever league result. Despite a positive start to the 2023-24 Premier League season, Tottenham recorded only 78 points from the last 66 Premier League games, winning just 11 of 38 league matches. The board concluded unanimously that a change was necessary for the best interests of the club.
