Kharkiv: Ukraine said on Wednesday that at least three people were killed and over 60 others injured in an overnight Russian drone attack on the city of Kharkiv.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims in a statement on X, confirming that 64 people were injured, including 9 children. Zelenskyy emphasized the need for increased pressure on Russia, stating that the current measures are insufficient and urging global leaders, particularly the United States, to take decisive action to compel Russia towards genuine diplomacy.

Earlier reports from Kharkiv Governor Oleh Synyehubov indicated that the drone attack targeted the Slobidskyi and Osnovianskyi districts, resulting in casualties and significant damage. Synyehubov claimed that Russia launched 15 drones on the city, damaging nine apartment buildings, three private houses, 13 cars, and a factory.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov noted that the attack occurred between 00.31 and 00.40 am local time Wednesday (2131-2140GMT Tuesday), with emergency services and volunteers actively working to address the aftermath.

Ukraine's Air Force later reported on Telegram that its air defenses intercepted 49 of the 85 drones launched by Russia overnight. Kharkiv, located about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from the Russian border and Ukraine's second-largest city, has been a frequent target in the ongoing conflict.
