Kananaskis: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced an agreement to negotiate a security and defense partnership with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa. The decision was reached during a meeting held on the sidelines of the Group of 7 (G7) summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada.

According to Anadolu Agency, Albanese emphasized the importance of deepening trade, security, and defense ties with the European Union. He highlighted that the new framework aims to enhance collaboration in critical areas such as the defense industry, cybersecurity, and counter-terrorism. Alongside the security and defense partnership, Albanese mentioned the resumption of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement, which is expected to create more job opportunities in both Australia and Europe.

In addition to discussions with EU leaders, Albanese met with senior members of former US President Donald Trump's economic team to explore ways to further strengthen their partnership.
