New York: International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi expressed grave concerns that the nuclear non-proliferation regime, a cornerstone of international security for over fifty years, is currently at risk. Grossi made these remarks at an emergency session of the UN Security Council, following recent US military actions against Iranian nuclear facilities.

According to Anadolu Agency, Grossi highlighted the escalating tensions in Iran, exacerbated by recent bombardments and the potential expansion of the conflict. He emphasized the urgent need to seize the opportunity for dialogue and diplomacy to prevent the situation from deteriorating further. Grossi warned that failure to engage in negotiations could lead to unprecedented violence and potentially dismantle the global non-proliferation regime.

Grossi called for a return to the negotiating table and urged for the reinstatement of IAEA inspectors to Iran's nuclear sites. He stressed the importance of monitoring Iran's uranium stockpiles, with particular attention to the 400kg enriched to 60% purity. These inspections are crucial for maintaining the integrity of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

In a related development, US President Donald Trump confirmed on Sunday that American forces targeted Iran's Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites. These attacks are part of an escalating US-backed Israeli military campaign against Iran, which began on June 13. In response, Tehran has launched retaliatory attacks on Israel, further intensifying the conflict.
