Berlin: Germany plans to spend £166 billion ($192.5 billion) to modernize its infrastructure through 2029, the Transport Ministry announced Tuesday. The comprehensive investment strategy aims to enhance the country's railways, highways, and waterways, with a significant emphasis on modernization and maintenance.
According to Anadolu Agency, the federal government has earmarked £107 billion for railways, approximately £52 billion for highways, and £8 billion for waterways. This substantial funding will be drawn from both the regular budget and a special fund of £500 billion allocated specifically for infrastructure modernization.
The planned investments will support various projects, such as the digitization of railways and the maintenance of Germany's bridge network. The total infrastructure investments, set at £166 billion, will be distributed equally over the span of five years from 2025 to 2029, amounting to £33 billion annually.
