Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on the country's parliament to ratify an agreement with the Council of Europe to establish a special tribunal addressing "Russian aggression" against Ukraine. Zelenskyy signed the ratification documents on Tuesday, emphasizing the need for a prompt start to the tribunal's establishment process.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy highlighted in a post on X that the agreement was recently signed between Ukraine and the Council of Europe. He urged the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's unicameral parliament, to expedite the ratification process by preparing the necessary legislative amendments for the agreement's implementation.

Zelenskyy stressed the urgency of addressing the matter, calling on Members of Parliament to act without delay. He also instructed the Foreign Ministry and his presidential office to develop a timeline for collaborating with international partners to officially launch the tribunal.

The Ukrainian leader underscored the importance of holding Russia accountable for its aggression, stating that the establishment of the tribunal is a global concern. The agreement aims to create a legal framework focused specifically on prosecuting acts of aggression, separate from other crimes such as war crimes or crimes against humanity, amid international calls for broader involvement.
