Malaysia, France Advocate for Gaza Ceasefire and Humanitarian Aid

Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim have united in their call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the critical need for humanitarian aid to be allowed into the conflict-ridden enclave.

According to Anadolu Agency, during a joint press conference held in Paris, both leaders underscored the importance of a two-state solution as the optimal path to resolving the ongoing conflict. They voiced their mutual support for a ceasefire and highlighted the collaborative efforts with various nations, including Saudi Arabia, to facilitate the delivery of aid to Gaza. "We are working with several parties, among them Saudi (Arabia), towards this. For now, Israel must allow for aid to reach Gaza," Macron stated.

Anwar Ibrahim further reiterated his support for the two-state solution while condemning Israel's military actions against Iran. He urged for peaceful resolutions and inspections, stressing Iran's commitment to peaceful methods. "If you say no to Iran, (and) you say yes to Israel, we have a problem; try and resolve that. But I agree with you, we must impress upon Iran to use this for peaceful methods and peaceful means and allow for inspection, which they have given a commitment," Anwar added.

The press conference also saw both leaders expressing solidarity for a ceasefire in Ukraine, showcasing their dedication to global peace efforts. Following his visit to France, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is set to travel to Brazil.

Despite widespread international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli military continues its offensive in Gaza, resulting in significant casualties and widespread destruction. The ongoing conflict has claimed the lives of over 57,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, since October 2023, and has severely impacted living conditions with shortages of food and outbreaks of disease.

In response to these actions, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its military actions in the region.
