Turkish President Urges Restraint Amid Rising Tensions Between Azerbaijan and Russia

Ankara: Trkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for restraint between Russia and Azerbaijan amid escalating tensions, emphasizing Ankara's strong ties with both nations and cautioning against actions that could destabilize the region. Erdogan expressed this sentiment to reporters during his return flight from Azerbaijan, stressing the importance of diplomatic resolutions to maintain harmonious relations between Moscow and Baku.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan highlighted that both countries possess the wisdom and understanding necessary to resolve the issues at hand. Trkiye remains committed to supporting constructive initiatives toward a peaceful resolution. Erdogan underscored Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev's cautious approach and assured Ankara's dedication to a diplomatic solution.

On the topic of the peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Erdogan noted that it represents significant opportunities. He emphasized the strategic importance of the Zangezur Corridor, a vital route linking western Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan and extending towards China, Trkiye, and Russia. Erdogan described the corridor as a "geo-economic revolution," highlighting Yerevan's newfound flexibility towards joining the economic integration.

Erdogan also discussed the corridor's strategic link with the Middle Corridor, enhancing trade across Europe, China, Trkiye, and Central Asia. The completion of rail infrastructure connecting Trkiye's Kars-Igdir-Nakhchivan railway will expedite the movement of goods between Central Asia, China, and Europe. Erdogan emphasized the strong support from Azerbaijan and Iraq for this project.

In defense matters, Erdogan addressed the recent NATO summit's decision to boost defense spending. He dismissed Greece's concerns over Trkiye's initiatives, stating that they bolster NATO's security. Erdogan reiterated Trkiye's commitment to peace and stability, emphasizing that Ankara poses no threat to any nation that does not oppose its interests.

Regarding the F-35 fighter jets issue, Erdogan expressed expectations for the gradual delivery of F-35s to Trkiye during Trump's presidency, anticipating the US president's adherence to the agreement. He stressed that the F-35 issue is not solely about military technology but also about fostering robust partnerships on global platforms, particularly NATO. Erdogan noted that the situation has accelerated advancements in Trkiye's defense industry.

On Israel's ongoing conflicts, Erdogan criticized Israel's ceasefire violations and reiterated Ankara's efforts to prevent further escalations. Trkiye views the ceasefire between Iran and Israel as an opportunity for a Gaza truce, with Hamas showing goodwill. Erdogan recounted his discussion with US President Donald Trump at the NATO Leaders Summit, urging Trump to intervene and prevent further casualties.

Erdogan mentioned a proposed 60-day temporary ceasefire plan, emphasizing the crucial role of US influence over Israel in this process. He called for increased pressure from the US and Western countries on Israel to agree to a ceasefire.

Addressing Syria, Erdogan reiterated Trkiye's firm stance against legitimizing terrorist groups. He emphasized Trkiye's commitment to eradicating terrorism and supporting the establishment of the Syrian Army's authority throughout the country. Erdogan suggested implementing models such as free trade zones, logistics hubs, and border markets in northern Syria, expressing optimism about Syria's development following the lifting of sanctions by the US and Europe. He also mentioned Azerbaijani President Aliyev's readiness to support Syria with natural gas.
