Ankara: The Hawaiian Islands have seen no "wave of consequence" after tsunami alerts were issued following an 8.8 magnitude earthquake off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, the governor of the US state said Wednesday.
According to Anadolu Agency, Governor Josh Green addressed a news conference, stating that while there has been a significant retreat of water, no major waves have been observed. He noted that it would likely be another two to three hours before an "all clear" could be issued.
The earthquake, one of the largest on record, prompted the US Tsunami Warning System to issue warnings of potential tsunami waves along some coasts of Russia, Japan, Alaska, and Hawaii.
