Stockholm: The Swedish police task force dedicated to investigating war crimes has received over 700 reports concerning Gaza since the onset of the conflict in 2023, as reported by Radio Sweden on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, more than 700 reports of war crimes in Gaza have been submitted by organizations and private citizens. These reports primarily involve individuals suspected of committing offenses in Gaza, although some also pertain to representatives or leaders who may not have been directly present in the region.

Prosecutor Reena Devgun has confirmed that several investigations have been initiated, though she did not provide details regarding the specific nature of the crimes or whether any Swedish nationals are implicated. Prosecutors are seeking to engage with individuals who have connections to Sweden and have been in Gaza or can supply other forms of evidence.

Testimonies collected through these investigations could be utilized in court proceedings within Sweden, other nations, or through international bodies like the International Criminal Court, making them highly significant, as noted by Devgun.

Israel is encountering increasing condemnation for its actions in Gaza, where it has reportedly caused nearly 61,600 casualties since October 2023. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its conflict in the enclave.
