5.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Pacific Island Nation of Tonga

Tonga: A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck the Pacific island nation of Tonga on Thursday, with no immediate reports of a tsunami warning, said the German Research Center for Geosciences (GEOFON).

According to Anadolu Agency, the quake hit the Tonga Islands region at 5.38 pm (0438GMT), as reported by GEOFON. Initially, the center noted the magnitude of the tremor as 6.0 on the Richter Scale.

The US Geological Survey also recorded the intensity as 5.6 on the Richter scale, while measuring the depth of the earthquake between 10-25 kilometers (6-15 miles). There have been no immediate reports of damage to life or infrastructure.
