Moscow: The deputy chair of Russia's Security Council has criticized the idea of deploying NATO troops in Ukraine as a security guarantee, referring to one of the plan's main supporters as a 'brainless Gallic rooster.'

According to Anadolu Agency, Dmitry Medvedev, who is also a former Russian president, reaffirmed Russia's opposition to the presence of NATO peacekeepers in Ukraine in a statement on US social media company X. Medvedev noted that Moscow has been explicit about its stance on this issue. He accused the individual he labeled as a "brainless Gallic rooster" of being unable to abandon the proposal.

Medvedev added: "But the hoarse, pathetic bird continues to crow to prove it's king of the coop." While Medvedev did not name anyone specifically, evidence suggests his remarks were directed at Emmanuel Macron, the French president.

Medvedev's comments came amidst significant diplomatic efforts by US President Donald Trump to mediate a resolution to the nearly 3 1/2-year-long Russia-Ukraine conflict. These efforts included a pivotal summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last week. Following this, Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and several European leaders at the White House to discuss future diplomatic steps to resolve the ongoing conflict, including security assurances for Kyiv.

The day after these discussions, Macron, who participated in the Oval Office talks, shared with French media the idea of deploying "reassurance forces" to Ukraine as a security measure.
