Washington: The director of the US Defense Intelligence Agency, Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Kruse, has been removed from his position, according to a report by CBS on Friday. A senior defense official confirmed the removal, stating: 'Lt. Gen. Kruse will no longer serve as DIA Director.' Christine Bordine, the agency's deputy director, has been appointed as the acting chief.

According to Anadolu Agency, the DIA is one of the primary military intelligence services in the United States, providing critical analysis to both the Pentagon and the White House. The agency was responsible for conducting the preliminary assessment of US airstrikes targeting Iran's nuclear facilities in June, which represented a significant escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran.

The CBS report revealed that the DIA's assessment concluded the strikes only set back Iran's nuclear program by several months, and some enriched uranium stockpiles had been relocated prior to the attack. This assessment was at odds with President Donald Trump's televised statement claiming that Iran's nuclear capabilities had been 'completely and totally obliterated' and delayed by 'decades.'

The discrepancy between the DIA's assessment and the President's declaration reportedly caused dissatisfaction within the administration and may have contributed to Kruse's dismissal. Intelligence committee leaders in Congress were informed of Kruse's firing but were not provided with a specific reason, according to the report.
