Turkish Foreign Minister to Chair Emergency OIC Meeting on Gaza

Jeddah: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will chair an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Saudi Arabia's city of Jeddah on Monday to discuss the situation in Gaza, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.

According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan will attend the meeting as Trkiye currently holds the rotating presidency of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, as stated in a ministry announcement. The urgent gathering underscores the gravity of the ongoing conflict and the need for a unified response from the member states.

The OIC has highlighted that the meeting will center on the ongoing Israeli actions in Gaza, with the primary aim of coordinating member states' positions and responses. The situation in Gaza has reached a critical point, with Israel's military campaign having killed over 62,600 Palestinians since October 2023. The brutal onslaught has led to widespread devastation across the enclave, which is now on the brink of famine.
