Beijing: Beijing on Monday urged the US against disrupting cooperation between China and Latin American countries, accusing Washington of 'sowing discord' between the two sides. Beijing's remarks came after US military commander Alvin Holsey said recently in a defense conference in Argentina that China continues to 'extract precious resources' from the Western Hemisphere.

According to Anadolu Agency, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun addressed a news conference in Beijing, describing the US allegations as a "worn-out narrative divorced from reality." Guo criticized this perspective as indicative of a "Cold War mentality and confrontational mindset" prevalent among certain individuals in the US.

Guo highlighted that China has engaged in practical cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean countries, emphasizing principles such as mutual respect, quality, mutual benefit, openness, inclusiveness, and cooperation. He contrasted this with what he described as the US's relentless efforts to interfere with and control Latin America and the Caribbean, actions he labeled as hegemonic and bullying.

The spokesman reiterated that Latin America and the Caribbean are independent regions and not "anyone's backyard." He underscored that China's cooperative efforts in the region are not aimed at any third party and should not be disrupted by external forces.

Guo concluded by urging the US to cease its attempts to create discord and instead focus on contributing positively to the development of Latin American and Caribbean countries.
