Beirut: The Israeli army is expanding one of its five border outposts located in southern Lebanon, as reported by Lebanese media on Tuesday. An Israeli bulldozer was observed removing rocks and clearing land at the outpost situated on Jall al-Deir hill, which lies on the southern edge of Aitaroun in the Bint Jbeil district. This activity marks a continuation of Israeli presence in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, in a separate incident, Israeli forces crossed into a valley on the outskirts of Aita al-Shaab, also within the Bint Jbeil district. The forces remained in the area for over an hour before withdrawing, highlighting ongoing tensions in the region. The military offensive launched by Israel in Lebanon on October 8, 2023, escalated into a full-scale conflict by September 2024, resulting in over 4,000 fatalities and approximately 17,000 injuries.

A ceasefire was established in November; however, Israeli forces have continued to carry out near-daily operations in southern Lebanon, citing Hezbollah activities as their target. Under the terms of the truce, Israel was expected to complete its withdrawal from southern Lebanon by January 26, but the deadline was extended to February 18 after Tel Aviv's initial refusal to comply. Despite the extension, Israel maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
