France Rules Out Nothing if Russian Fighter Jets Enter European Airspace

Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that France would consider all options if a Russian fighter jet were to enter European airspace without authorization. "In line with the doctrine of strategic ambiguity, I can tell you that nothing is off the table," Macron stated during an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper, highlighting the serious stance France is prepared to take in such a scenario.

According to Anadolu Agency, Macron expressed concerns about underestimating Russia, labeling it as the 'greatest structural threat to Europeans.' He cited various forms of interference, including election manipulation, cyberattacks, assassinations of opponents, and the dissemination of false information as evidence of the threat Russia poses. Macron warned of the influence of Russia's 'secret army,' comprised of digital bots, which he claimed are actively undermining democracies across Europe, including in France and Germany.

When questioned about the European Commission's proposal to use frozen Russian assets to fund a 'reparations loan' for Ukraine, Macron cautioned that simply confiscating these assets would breach international law. This highlights the legal and ethical complexities involved in responding to Russian actions.

Macron also touched on France's nuclear strategy, revealing plans to deliver a speech in early 2026 regarding the nation's nuclear doctrine, which is currently under review. He reiterated the existence of the French nuclear umbrella and expressed his commitment to updating France's doctrine while enhancing strategic dialogue with European allies interested in deeper engagement.
