Copenhagen: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held meetings with European and NATO leaders on the sidelines of the European Political Community (EPC) summit in Copenhagen, focusing on defense cooperation, European integration, and diplomatic initiatives.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy stated on Telegram that he met Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to discuss regional security, NATO's eastern flank, and support for Ukraine. They also addressed the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative, which is aimed at accelerating the delivery of weapons and equipment to Ukraine to enhance its defense capabilities. The agenda included discussions on frozen Russian assets and joint diplomatic efforts.
Zelenskyy also held discussions with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, expressing gratitude for Azerbaijan's support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Their conversation included topics on energy, diplomatic efforts toward peace, and a potential defense partnership, with plans for continued engagement.
The Ukrainian President's meeting with Moldovan President Maia Sandu focused on European integration, particularly the simultaneous opening of the first EU accession cluster for both countries. Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of mutual support as neighboring partners.
In another significant meeting, Zelenskyy engaged with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Discussions revolved around Russia's airspace violations, with Zelenskyy underscoring Ukraine's readiness to increase production of defense equipment under the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) instrument, an EU initiative offering substantial low-cost loans to boost member states' defense capabilities.
Additionally, Zelenskyy conferred with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte on countering Russian provocations and strengthening the PURL initiative. They agreed on the next steps in Ukraine-NATO cooperation and preparations for the upcoming Ramstein meeting of defense ministers.
