Turkish and Qatari Foreign Ministers Discuss Gaza Ceasefire Plan in Phone Call

Ankara: Trkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani engaged in a phone call to deliberate over the Gaza ceasefire plan proposed by US President Donald Trump, Turkish diplomatic sources reported. The two ministers focused on the implementation aspects of the plan, though no additional details were disclosed.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Trump's 20-point ceasefire proposal, announced on September 29, outlines measures such as the release of Israeli captives and Palestinian prisoners, a ceasefire, the disarmament of Hamas, and the reconstruction of Gaza. While Hamas has expressed agreement with the plan in principle, further discussions are scheduled to take place in Egypt.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed that his negotiating team is set to travel to Sharm El Sheikh as early as Monday to participate in the negotiations. This move comes amid ongoing violence, with the Israeli army reportedly having killed over 67,000 Palestinians, primarily women and children, in Gaza since October 2023. The continuous bombardment has devastated the region, leading to severe humanitarian crises, including starvation and the spread of diseases.
