Kuala lumpur: US President Donald Trump is scheduled to arrive in Malaysia on Sunday to attend a summit of Southeast Asian nations, as confirmed by a top official on Wednesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Malaysian Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced Trump's participation in the 47th summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Fadzil stated, "Confirmed-Donald Trump will arrive in Malaysia on Oct 26. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will announce any changes," during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.

As Malaysia currently chairs ASEAN, it will host the upcoming summits under the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability' from Sunday to Tuesday. The bloc, consisting of 10 Southeast Asian nations, will conduct internal meetings and bloc-level summits with leaders from key dialogue partners such as the US, China, Japan, and India.

ASEAN, a regional organization founded in Bangkok on August 8, 1967, includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Timor-Leste, or East Timor, is set to become the bloc's 11th member during the meetings in Kuala Lumpur.

In addition to summit-related activities, Trump is expected to witness the signing of a peace agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, who were recently involved in deadly border clashes.

President Trump's visit is part of a broader three-nation tour commencing in Malaysia, followed by stops in Japan and South Korea. In Tokyo, Trump is set to engage in his first face-to-face discussions with Japan's first female Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, marking his first visit to Japan in six years.
