Istanbul: The 13th edition of the Islamic Economics and Finance Summit began welcoming visitors on Tuesday at Istanbul-based Bogazici University, marking a significant event for those interested in the intersection of economics and Islamic finance.

According to Anadolu Agency, the summit is organized by the Islamic Economics Research Center (IKAM) of the ILKE Foundation, with Anadolu serving as the global communications partner. Ahmet Saik Oner, chair of the ILKE Foundation, emphasized the organization’s commitment to developing an economic model that safeguards people and labor while minimizing injustices in economic systems.

Oner, speaking at the event’s opening, highlighted the foundation’s focus on ‘a fair finance approach,’ and noted Trkiye’s progress toward becoming a global center in participatory finance. He pointed out existing structural problems within Trkiye’s law, education, and economics sectors, stressing the importance of strengthening standards and regulations. He emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive legislation in Trkiye.

IKAM Director Melih Turan shared that the event, originally an Islamic economics workshop, has evolved into a summit that encompasses both academic and financial sectors. As part of the eighth iteration of the Islamic Economies Award Ceremony, several awards were presented in categories such as contribution, research, thesis, and education. The summit will feature multiple panels throughout the day.
