Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday praised Islamabad's historic ties with Ankara and highlighted Trkiye's progress and development journey. Addressing a ceremony at the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad to mark the 102nd anniversary of the Republic of Trkiye, Sharif noted the presence of Turkish flags across Pakistan, symbolizing the deep connection between the two nations.

According to Anadolu Agency, the event was attended by federal ministers, senior officials, diplomats, and members of the Turkish community. Major buildings in the capital city were adorned with Turkish flags in celebration. Sharif expressed admiration for Trkiye's progress under the leadership of Ataturk and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, whom he described as a leader of progress and resilience.

Sharif recounted the longstanding ties between the two nations and acknowledged Trkiye's unwavering support for Pakistan during challenging times, including conflicts and natural disasters. He emphasized Trkiye's assistance in building infrastructure in flood-hit areas of Pakistan.

Highlighting the strategic partnership, Sharif mentioned the mutual agreement to support each other on international matters. He expressed gratitude to Trkiye for its support for the people of Gaza and Kashmir while reiterating Pakistan's support for Trkiye on Northern Cyprus.

Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Irfan Neziroglu also addressed the gathering, delivering President Erdogan's message. The event commemorated the declaration of the Republic of Trkiye by Ataturk on Oct. 29, 1923, and the subsequent unanimous vote by the Turkish Grand National Assembly to make Ataturk the country's first president. Republic Day remains a significant annual celebration in Trkiye.
