Damascus: US envoy to Damascus Tom Barrack on Monday congratulated the Syrian people on the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, describing the anniversary as 'a new chance for peace, unity, and prosperity.'

According to Anadolu Agency, Barrack addressed the Syrian population through US social media platform X, expressing his congratulations to Syrians of all backgrounds. He emphasized the shared hope for a peaceful future following years of conflict. His message highlighted the inclusive nature of the occasion by addressing various ethnic and religious groups within Syria, such as Sunni, Alawite, Kurd, Christian, Druze, Arab, Turkmen, Circassian, and others.

The anniversary was marked throughout Syrian provinces including Damascus, its countryside, Daraa, Hama, Aleppo, and Idlib, where military parades and public events took place. These celebrations symbolized a collective aspiration towards a unified and prosperous Syria.

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa also delivered a message of hope and reconstruction, following a dawn prayer at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus. He expressed a vision for rebuilding Syria to honor both its historical legacy and its potential future.

The fall of Assad, who had ruled Syria for nearly 25 years, occurred last December when he fled to Russia, ending the Baath Party's long-standing rule since 1963. Sharaa's transitional administration came into power in January, marking a new chapter in Syrian governance.
