Seoul: South Korea has finalized a framework agreement to export K2 main battle tanks and K808 armored vehicles to Peru, as reported by the Seoul-based Yonhap news agency. The agreement was formalized during a signing ceremony in Peru on Tuesday, attended by Peruvian President Jose Jeri and Lee Yong-chul, head of South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration.

According to Anadolu Agency, the agreement involves a partnership between South Korea's defense firm Hyundai Rotem and Peru's Army Weapons and Ammunition Factory. The contract stipulates the delivery of 54 K2 tanks and 141 K808 wheeled armored vehicles by the next year. This transaction is poised to become South Korea's inaugural tank export to Latin America and represents its largest ground weapons sale within the region.

President Lee Jae Myung commended the agreement, expressing his expectation that it will enhance defense and arms industry cooperation between the two countries.
