Beijing: China has expressed its hope that involved companies will reach solutions that adhere to Chinese laws and regulations, following a deal that places TikTok's operations under US control. Commerce Ministry spokesperson He Yongqian emphasized the importance of considering a "balanced" approach to the interests involved.

According to Anadolu Agency, He Yongqian highlighted at a press briefing that the recent agreement is a result of the "important consensus" reached during a phone call between the leaders of China and the United States. The economic and trade teams from both nations have previously established a basic framework to address issues like TikTok's operations through cooperation rooted in mutual respect and equal consultation.

He Yongqian also expressed hope for the United States to collaborate with China towards the same goals, urging the US to sincerely meet its obligations. She advocated for a "fair, open, transparent, and nondiscriminatory" business environment that would allow Chinese companies to maintain stable operations in the US. Furthermore, she called for support in fostering "steady, sound, and sustainable" development of bilateral trade and economic relations.

The statement follows TikTok's recent agreement to sell its American operations to a new American-led joint venture, which includes tech giant Oracle. This move aims to secure TikTok's future in the US and responds to US legislation passed last year, mandating ByteDance, TikTok's Chinese parent company, to divest 80% of its US assets or face a potential nationwide ban.
