Tehran: The Iranian army has issued a stern warning, stating that any attack on Iran from the United States will be met with a ‘decisive and swift response.’ This warning comes amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington.
According to Anadolu Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Akraminia, the spokesperson for the Iranian army, communicated through the state broadcaster that any ‘foolish move and miscalculation’ by the ‘enemy’ would be met with an immediate response. These comments come on the heels of a US military fleet’s deployment near the Persian Gulf and threats of a potential strike by US President Donald Trump.
Akraminia elaborated on the longstanding US policies in the region, highlighting a ‘clear pattern’ of ‘sanctions, cultural aggression, and maximum pressure’ against Iran, which he labeled a form of ‘hybrid warfare.’ He pointed to last year’s 12-day conflict with Israel, stating that the US underestimated Iran’s capabilities, yet Iran responded promptly to the military attack.
He emphasized the importance of an instant response in the event of an attack, citing the directives issued to the Iranian armed forces to ensure immediate action against any aggression. Plans and orders are in place to guarantee ‘appropriate and proportionate responses’ to various potential scenarios.
Akraminia also criticized President Trump, describing him as unpredictable and characterized by ‘narcissistic and delusional’ tendencies. He stressed Iran’s preparedness for war scenarios and its commitment to security and deterrence, although predicting specific actions remains challenging.
The spokesperson accused the US of employing ‘gunboat diplomacy,’ akin to strategies used in the 18th and 19th centuries, aimed at extracting endless concessions. Akraminia warned that American bases in the region could be targets, with the potential for a broad conflict affecting the entire region due to the reach of Iranian missiles and drones.
Iran’s readiness has reportedly increased since last year’s war, with restored and upgraded air defense systems, and enhanced readiness across the ground, naval, and air forces. Akraminia highlighted the importance of strengthening deterrence while maintaining national cohesion and addressing cognitive warfare challenges.
Regarding the US fleet in West Asia, Akraminia acknowledged the significance of warships but asserted that military power extends beyond US naval groups, indicating vulnerability to Iran’s missile capabilities.
