Myanmar: Myanmar's military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party has won a majority of seats in the country's Union Parliament, according to official election figures.

According to Anadolu Agency, based on the latest results released by the Union Election Commission, the party secured 231 seats in the Pyithu Hluttaw, the lower house, and 108 seats in the Amyotha Hluttaw, the upper house, amassing a total of 339 seats. A total of 420 elective seats were contested nationwide in the general election.

Myanmar's legislative structure comprises a bicameral parliament with 664 seats, of which 440 are in the lower house and 224 in the upper house. The elections were conducted in three phases between December 28 and January 25.

Earlier this month, Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Htun, head of the junta's information team, announced that a new parliament would convene in March following the completion of the polls, with a new government expected to take office in April. Myanmar's previous elected government, led by Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy, was ousted in a 2021 military coup, which led the country into over four years of emergency rule. The recently concluded three-phase polls marked the first general election held since the coup.
