Ankara: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that diplomatic efforts with the United States can only advance if Washington ceases its threats and actions that provoke conflict in the region. He emphasized that dialogue necessitates goodwill and mutual trust.

According to Anadolu Agency, Pezeshkian's comments were made during a phone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. A statement from Iran's presidency highlighted the importance of resolving disputes through diplomacy, engagement, and dialogue, while avoiding actions that might provoke escalation.

Pezeshkian stressed the need for establishing effective, dialogue-based diplomatic processes by fostering an atmosphere of mutual confidence. He added that the success of any diplomatic initiative requires evidence of goodwill from all parties involved and the cessation of threatening and war-inciting behavior.

He reiterated Iran's dedication to 'dignified diplomacy' under international law, stating that Tehran's approach is rooted in dialogue, mutual respect, the rejection of threats and force, and a win-win logic.

These remarks follow heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington, particularly after US President Donald Trump's statements about deploying a 'massive armada' toward Iran and his invitation for Tehran to engage in negotiations.

Iranian officials have cautioned that any US attack would be met with a 'swift and comprehensive' response, while maintaining that Tehran is open to discussions only under 'fair, balanced, and noncoercive terms.'
