Damascus: Syrian security forces have arrested those responsible for repeated rocket attacks targeting the Mezzeh area of the capital Damascus, including its military airport, Interior Minister Anas Khattab announced.
According to Anadolu Agency, Khattab stated the arrests were made public via a post on the social media platform X, operated by a U.S. company. The Minister emphasized that the individuals apprehended had carried out several assaults on the Mezzeh neighborhood and its military airport. These attacks were described as attempts to destabilize the region.
The Mezzeh area, located on the western edge of Damascus, has witnessed multiple rocket attacks over recent months. The most recent incident occurred on January 3, resulting in material damage. No group had claimed responsibility at the time, amid ongoing security tensions related to remnants of the former Bashar al-Assad regime, especially in central and western Syria.
These arrests align with efforts by Syria's new authorities to enhance security measures and reinforce control across the nation. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to facilitate recovery from the prolonged conflict, encourage reconstruction, and stabilize the country following the ousting of the Assad regime in late 2024.
