Washington: US President Donald Trump announced that his administration is observing early signs of progress in efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, while also engaging in diplomatic talks with Iran and other Middle Eastern countries. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump addressed the upcoming discussions involving US special envoy Steve Witkoff, who is scheduled to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump expressed cautious optimism regarding the situation in Ukraine, suggesting there could be potential positive developments. He emphasized the severity of the conflict, noting the significant loss of life, with approximately 25,000 people being killed each month. Trump criticized former President Joe Biden's approach to Ukraine aid, claiming the previous administration's financial commitments amounted to $350 billion. Trump's strategy involves encouraging allies to share the financial responsibility, asserting that European countries are compensating the US for weapons through NATO agreements.

Trump highlighted his primary aim of saving lives, despite the focus on financial aspects. He acknowledged that progress is slower than anticipated, attributing this to significant animosity between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump identified this deep-seated hostility as a major hurdle to achieving a quicker resolution.
