Muscat: Oman's foreign minister conducted separate meetings with US and Iranian officials on Friday, as part of efforts mediated by Oman to resume indirect US-Iran diplomacy, according to the country's Foreign Ministry.

According to Anadolu Agency, Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi engaged in discussions with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi and Steve Witkoff, the US president's special envoy for the Middle East. The talks were aimed at fostering conditions conducive to renewing diplomatic and technical negotiations. The Foreign Ministry communicated the details via the US social media platform X.

The Ministry underscored the significance of these discussions in light of the parties' commitment to ensuring their success, as a means to achieve long-term security and stability. Al Busaidi reaffirmed Oman's dedication to supporting dialogue, bridging gaps between the parties, and collaborating with various partners to achieve consensual political outcomes that meet the desired goals.

In his discussions, Al Busaidi also recognized the efforts of regional countries that support these diplomatic talks. Friday's negotiations featured Iran represented by a delegation led by Araghchi. As reported by Iran's state news agency IRNA, the delegation included Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Foreign Ministry deputy for political affairs; Esmaeil Baghaei, ministry spokesperson; Hamid Ghanbari, ministry deputy for economic affairs; along with other Iranian diplomats.

From the US side, Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and informal aide, represented the United States in the discussions. The talks occur amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran, exacerbated by an American military buildup in the Persian Gulf and repeated military threats from US President Donald Trump.

In recent developments, several countries, including Trkiye, have offered to mediate between Tehran and Washington to facilitate the reduction of tensions.
