Mexico city: Seven members of Mexico's New Generation Jalisco Cartel (CJNG), including its leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho," were killed during a military operation executed by Mexican Army Special Forces in Jalisco.

According to Anadolu Agency, the operation was a coordinated effort involving Mexico's Defense Ministry, the National Intelligence Center, and the Attorney General's Office. The operation took place in Tapalpa, Jalisco, a known CJNG stronghold, with the deployment of multiple Air Force aircraft and National Guard units. The aim was to apprehend Oseguera, a significant figure in drug trafficking operations.

Following the operation, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum urged calm and assured the public of "absolute coordination" with all state governments. Activities across the country are reportedly proceeding normally, despite the high-profile nature of the operation and its outcome.

The White House confirmed that the United States provided intelligence support for this significant operation. "El Mencho" was considered a top target due to his role as a major trafficker of fentanyl into the US. The operation also resulted in the deaths of three additional cartel members, with three wounded and two arrested.
