31 Syrians Injured as Assad Regime-era Rocket Explodes in Homs

Homs: Thirty-one people were injured Friday when an old rocket left by the Assad regime exploded in the Syrian city of Homs, Syrian authorities said.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that an explosion was heard in the Al-Abbasiyah and Deir Baalbeh neighborhoods in the city. It was determined that an old rocket exploded inside an air defense barracks near the Al-Sabeel area, as stated by a security source to SANA.

Homs health director Khaled al-Homsi informed the agency that 31 individuals were injured and subsequently taken to Al-Zahraa Hospital for treatment. Despite the official end of the 14-year civil war in Syria, the remnants of war continue to pose a latent threat to civilians. Unexploded ordnance and old munitions remain scattered across various parts of the country, posing significant risks to the populace.

On December 8, 2024, Syrian factions took control of Damascus after capturing several other cities, marking the end of 61 years of Baath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family governance.
