Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday emphasized the urgency of resolving the ongoing "senseless, unlawful, and extremely wrong war in Iran," highlighting Turkey's commitment to ending the conflict swiftly.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan made these remarks during an iftar event at the presidential complex in Ankara, where he reiterated Turkey's firm condemnation of attacks that violate international law. He emphasized Turkey's efforts to prevent the conflict from escalating further.

Erdogan detailed Turkey's approach to managing the critical situation with patience and caution, taking necessary steps to minimize the war's adverse effects on the economy and its citizens. He expressed regret over observing Ramadan under such grim circumstances, citing continued Israeli attacks on Gaza and the occupied West Bank despite a ceasefire agreement reached on October 10.

The situation worsened with Israeli-led air operations against Iran, initiated on February 28, which Erdogan attributed to provocations by the Israeli government. He also noted that Turkey, in coordination with its NATO allies, had implemented measures to safeguard its airspace and security.

The joint US-Israel offensive on Iran has resulted in over 1,300 fatalities, including high-profile figures such as Iran's supreme leader. In response, Tehran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and other regional countries, impacting US military assets and causing significant casualties and infrastructure damage.

Additionally, Israeli forces have intensified operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, despite a ceasefire reached in November 2024, resulting in the displacement of nearly a million people.
