Ankara: US President Donald Trump is reportedly considering the withdrawal of US troops from Germany, a move his administration has contemplated since he took office last year. This development was highlighted in a recent report.

According to Anadolu Agency, sources close to the administration have expressed a significant level of frustration with European allies. The sources emphasized the stance that any NATO member failing to contribute 5 percent of their GDP to defense should not participate in voting on future NATO expenditures.

Currently, all NATO members are committed to allocating at least 2 percent of their GDP to defense, a target established in 2014. Mark Rutte indicated that leaders are expected to discuss plans to achieve a 5 percent contribution at an upcoming summit in Ankara.

One source conveyed to the Telegraph, “You shouldn’t be able to vote to spend future money if you’re not paying.” This sentiment reflects ongoing tensions regarding defense spending responsibilities among NATO allies.

The Telegraph also reported last year that Trump had been contemplating the withdrawal of approximately 35,000 active personnel from Germany, a decision that could further complicate US-Europe diplomatic relations.
