Istanbul: The head of Trkiye’s National Intelligence Organization delivered a stark warning on Saturday, stating that the ongoing conflict involving Israel, the United States, and Iran could potentially escalate into a wider global crisis if not contained.
According to Anadolu Agency, Ibrahim Kalin, addressing attendees at the Stratcom Summit 2026 in Istanbul, expressed concerns about the numerous critical thresholds and crises the world has been enduring since the pandemic. He noted the prolonged Russia-Ukraine war, which recently entered its fifth year, as an example of unresolved global conflicts.
Kalin highlighted the ongoing repercussions of the conflict that erupted on October 7, 2023, between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, emphasizing the continuous violations and occupation policies by Israel despite ongoing peace efforts in Gaza.
Discussing regional developments, Kalin reflected on the 12-day Israel-Iran war from last June, which he described as a test for the current Iran conflict. He pointed out that the current Israel/US-Iran war, which began on February 28, has persisted for about a month, with Trkiye actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to prevent its escalation.
Kalin warned of the potential for the regional war initiated by Israel to transform into a global crisis, echoing the concerns of the Turkish president. He underscored the risk of the conflict evolving into a war with global repercussions, affecting billions worldwide. Trkiye’s efforts, he stressed, are primarily focused on ending the war promptly.
He also cautioned against the deepening divisions the conflict could cause in the region, suggesting that the war’s outcomes might include not only the elimination of Iran’s nuclear capabilities but also the potential for protracted fratricidal conflict among the region’s foundational peoples-Turks, Kurds, Arabs, and Persians. Trkiye, he asserted, would not contribute to such discord.
Kalin emphasized Trkiye’s commitment to peace, stating that the country has never and will never fuel discord. He criticized the legal grounds of the war against Iran, highlighting international law concerns and warning against creating new faits accomplis in the region.
Kalin reaffirmed Trkiye’s stance on Palestinian rights, vowing not to allow violations in Gaza and the West Bank to be ignored. He condemned Iran’s attacks on Gulf countries while reminding the audience of the initiators of the conflict.
Trkiye, Kalin stated, supports diplomatic efforts to foster negotiations, including initiatives led by Pakistan. However, he criticized Israel for undermining attempts to open dialogue, noting Israel’s intensive efforts to sabotage negotiation and communication channels.
The conflict has increasingly strained tensions in the Middle East since February 28, when the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran, resulting in over 1,340 deaths, including that of then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran has since retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and Gulf countries with US military assets.
Kalin also addressed broader concerns about the modern world’s information overload and detachment from truth. He argued that communication should not only convey information but also construct meaning, urging societies to develop their own narratives and conceptual frameworks.
