Ankara: Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry on Monday 'strongly condemned' the launch of a ballistic munition from Iran into Turkish airspace. In a statement, the ministry expressed solidarity with 'brotherly' Trkiye and reaffirmed 'unwavering support' for its security and territorial integrity.

According to Anadolu Agency, a ballistic munition launched from Iran into Turkish airspace was neutralized by NATO air and missile defense assets deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean. Trkiye's National Defense Ministry confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that Trkiye has been responding decisively to any potential threat and closely monitoring developments in the region.

The incident is not isolated, as previously, on March 4, a ballistic munition fired from Iran toward Turkish airspace was intercepted by NATO air and missile defense units in the Eastern Mediterranean. The debris from that incident was found in southern Hatay province. Another similar incident occurred on March 9, when an Iranian missile entered Turkish airspace and was neutralized, with debris falling in the country's southeastern Gaziantep province. No casualties were reported in either incident.

The region has been on alert since the US and Israel launched an air offensive on Iran on February 28, resulting in over 1,340 fatalities, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran has since retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, leading to casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions in global markets and aviation.
