Two drones struck a US diplomatic support facility at Baghdad International Airport on Thursday evening, marking the second such attack in two days, Iraqi media reported.
According to Anadolu Agency, Shafaq News, citing an unnamed security source, stated that the two drones fell inside the site without interception. There was no claim of responsibility for the attack, and both Iraqi and US authorities have yet to comment on the strike. The same facility was targeted by a drone attack on Wednesday, which did not result in any casualties.
The US diplomatic support center at Baghdad airport serves as a logistical and administrative hub for American diplomats and personnel in Iraq. It includes administrative offices, residential facilities, storage areas, and secured zones, and is utilized to facilitate diplomatic missions and support operations for the US Embassy in Baghdad.
Regional tensions have escalated since the US and Israe l launched a joint offensive on Iran on February 28, which has resulted in the deaths of more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
