Russia and Ukraine Accuse Each Other of Violating Easter Truce

Moscow: The governor of Russia’s Kursk region accused Ukraine on Saturday of violating the Easter truce, alleging that Kyiv carried out a drone strike in the city of Lgov. Alexander Khinshtein claimed that Ukraine attacked a gas station, resulting in injuries to three people. ‘The enemy’s sneaky attack occurred after 4 pm during the declared Easter truce,’ he stated on Telegram.

According to Anadolu Agency, in a separate incident in Russia’s Belgorod region, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that Ukraine continued to strike the region, injuring two civilians. On the Ukrainian side, Oleksandr Hanzha, the governor of Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, accused Russia of launching more than 60 drone and artillery strikes on two districts in the region during the truce, which injured one person. The exact timing of these attacks was not detailed in the governor’s statement.

The Ukrainian General Staff reported a total of 469 violations of the Easter ceasefire. They claimed that Russia conducted 22 assault operations, 153 shelling incidents, 19 strikes by kamikaze drones (‘Lancet,’ ‘Molniya’), and 275 strikes by FPV drones after the truce commenced. It is difficult to independently verify these claims due to the ongoing conflict.

Russia’s Defense Ministry announced that a 32-hour ceasefire with Ukraine came into effect starting at 4 pm Moscow time (1300GMT) on Saturday. The ceasefire was initially declared on Thursday by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who instructed the military command to prepare for its implementation.
