San francisco: US-based artificial intelligence company Midjourney announced its development of a revolutionary system designed to perform full-body medical scans in under 60 seconds. The initiative comes as part of a new healthcare technology venture, the company revealed in a blog post on Thursday.
According to Anadolu Agency, Midjourney plans to create a device named the "Midjourney Scanner" through its newly established venture, "Midjourney Medical." The technology, which is still in the developmental stage, aims to offer MRI-like imaging capabilities, promising faster and more accessible scans. Designed to function in a shallow water pool, the system will use a ring of ultrasonic sensors to scan the body.
Midjourney's statement detailed that the device will emit ultrasound waves from multiple angles, capturing signals reflected from the body. These signals will then be converted into images using advanced AI-supported systems. The company has set an ambitious target to complete scans in less than 60 seconds.
In addition to the scanner, Midjourney plans to introduce its technology through a new concept called "Midjourney Spa." The first facility is expected to open in San Francisco by 2027, featuring hot pools, saunas, cold plunge areas, and dedicated sections for body scanning.
The company will focus on algorithm and hardware development over the next year, alongside conducting research trials and preparing for the launch of its inaugural "research spa." Midjourney aims to expand its presence to more cities and transition to a third-generation scanner by 2028.
According to the statement, the company envisions establishing a network of over 50,000 scanners worldwide by 2031. Initially, users will receive detailed body composition maps, with plans to submit regular testing results to the US Food and Drug Administration to enable more advanced medical capabilities.
