Rome: US President Donald Trump on Sunday criticized Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for refusing requests from the United States regarding efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with Italy's stance through a post on his Truth Social platform, highlighting that despite significant US investment in NATO and Italy's security, the Italian Prime Minister chose not to assist in addressing what he described as Iran's "very serious Nuclear Threat."

According to Anadolu Agency, the tension between the two leaders has intensified recently. Meloni has accused Trump of making "senseless" and "constant, unprovoked attacks," which began after Trump claimed she sought a photo with him during the G7 summit in France. The dispute has since escalated, with both leaders exchanging critical remarks.

Trump accused Meloni of refusing US interests concerning Iran and criticized Italy for not permitting the US to use its military landing strips and runways, which he called "a great logistical inconvenience." He pointed out that the US significantly contributes to Italy's security through NATO, implying that Italy should reciprocate by supporting US efforts against Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Furthermore, Trump alleged that Meloni was attempting to restore ties with him after the US had "defeated Iran militarily," suggesting that her actions were motivated by domestic political considerations.
