Amman: Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced Monday that it launched an attack on Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan using missiles and drones. The IRGC claimed that the assault resulted in fires at several fuel depots and ammunition storage facilities.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Jordanian military responded by intercepting and downing four missiles that entered its airspace from Iranian territory. This marks a significant escalation in regional tensions, following a series of exchanges between US and Iranian forces.
In a statement, the IRGC described the attack on Jordan as the initial phase of its response to recent US attacks on Iranian coastal military bases. The IRGC asserted that these US attacks were provoked by an incident in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iranian naval forces intercepted two ships accused of illegal navigation and endangering maritime safety.
The IRGC indicated that its retaliatory operations are ongoing and that further results will be disclosed in upcoming statements. This incident is part of a broader pattern of hostilities that have intensified in recent days, with Iran admitting to launching attacks on multiple US military sites across the region in retaliation for US actions against Iranian targets.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that its recent strikes aimed to diminish Iran's capacity to threaten civilian mariners and commercial vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic chokepoint for global oil shipments. CENTCOM confirmed a new wave of offensive operations against Iran, highlighting the use of precision munitions to target multiple locations and reduce Iran's threat to maritime traffic.
