Vehicle-Ramming Incident Claims Lives of Pilgrims in Basra

Basra: At least nine people lost their lives and 12 others sustained injuries in a vehicle-ramming incident in Iraq's southern Basra province. This tragic event occurred on Thursday, as reported by the official news agency INA, with information sourced from the Health Ministry.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Health Ministry revealed that the victims were part of a group of pilgrims participating in the Arbaeen Walk, an annual Shia Muslim pilgrimage to Karbala. This pilgrimage marks the 40th day following the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.

In the aftermath of the incident, Health Minister Saleh al-Hasnawi directed medical authorities to deploy emergency resources and ensure that the injured received necessary medical attention. Basra Governor Asaad al-Eidani announced a three-day period of official mourning in response to the crash.
