Trkiye’s Foreign Minister Commemorates 52nd Anniversary of Cyprus Peace Operation

Ankara: Trkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Monday marked the 52nd anniversary of the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, emphasizing the military intervention's role in securing the freedom, security, and future of the Turkish Cypriot people. Fidan reaffirmed Ankara's ongoing commitment to defending the rights of the Turkish Cypriots.

According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan expressed his sentiments through a statement on the US social media platform X, celebrating the anniversary with enthusiasm. He highlighted that Trkiye acted in accordance with the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee 52 years ago, executing the Cyprus Peace Operation alongside Turkish Cypriot resistance fighters.

Fidan noted the collaboration between Trkiye and the resistance fighters, known as Mujahideen, which ensured the safety of the Turkish Cypriot community facing existential threats. The operation laid the groundwork for the peace, stability, and security that the island has experienced for over five decades.

He further stated that Turkish Cypriots continue to live with dignity and security in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Fidan also reiterated Trkiye's unwavering stance as a guarantor power, pledging continued defense of Turkish Cypriot rights and interests.

Additionally, Fidan paid homage to the Turkish soldiers and Turkish Cypriot fighters who perished during the operation and expressed gratitude to the veterans for their contributions.
