Ankara: As tensions between the United States and Iran escalate, President Donald Trump has directed attention to Pickaxe Mountain, an underground facility near Iran's Natanz nuclear complex. Trump has issued warnings about potentially striking the site, which has been identified in Israeli intelligence reports as a critical fallback for Tehran's nuclear activities.

According to Anadolu Agency, during a meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Trump reiterated his intentions, stating that a strike on Pickaxe Mountain could be imminent. The facility has gained importance following reports suggesting that Iran has moved thousands of uranium-enrichment centrifuges into its tunnels. These developments have heightened concerns among US and Israeli officials about Tehran's intentions to maintain uranium enrichment capabilities, even in the event of a military attack.

The history of Pickaxe Mountain is rooted in a sabotage operation in 2020, believed to have been orchestrated by Israel, which destroyed a centrifuge production plant at Natanz. In response, Iran commenced construction of the Shahid Alimohammadi facility, commonly known as Pickaxe Mountain, claiming it as a replacement manufacturing site. The facility, located within the Zagros mountain range in the central province of Isfahan, is reportedly fortified and built to withstand potential attacks.

The strategic importance of Pickaxe Mountain lies in its design, intended to be more resilient than other facilities.
