Ankara: US President Donald Trump on Thursday reaffirmed his support for Todd Blanche's nomination for attorney general, while threatening to withdraw his nomination because of opposition from two Republican senators.
According to Anadolu Agency, Trump praised Blanche in a post on his Truth Social platform as a "STAR," emphasizing Blanche's potential to be one of the "Greatest Attorney Generals of All Time." Despite this endorsement, Trump expressed frustration with Republican Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis, whom he accused of blocking Blanche's confirmation by refusing to endorse him.
Trump criticized both senators, stating they are "refusing to vote for this Great Nominee," and added that Blanche "will remain, in any event, as Acting." Furthermore, he indicated a willingness to temporarily withdraw Blanche's nomination if Cornyn and Tillis continue to oppose him, suggesting he might renominate Blanche once the senators leave office.
Trump also highlighted the senators' previous support for former President Joe Biden's Attorney General nominee Merrick Garland, pointing out, "Remember, both Cornyn and Tillis voted for Merrick Garland, and others, too numerous to mention."
