Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has emphasized the necessity of implementing all provisions of the Gaza roadmap, including the complete Israeli withdrawal from the enclave.
According to Anadolu Agency, Abdelatty communicated with Nikolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace's high representative for Gaza, to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian region and the efforts surrounding US President Donald Trump's plan. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry issued a statement revealing that the conversation centered around ensuring the "full, safe and sustainable" delivery of humanitarian aid and facilitating the complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
Abdelatty highlighted that these measures would set the stage for the roadmap's second phase, supporting early recovery and reconstruction initiatives. He also urged the activation of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to commence its interim duties within the enclave.
The foreign minister underscored the necessity of deploying an International Stabilization Force to monitor the ceasefire, maintain security during the transitional phase, and uphold the unity of the Palestinian territories. He emphasized the ultimate goal of enabling the Palestinian Authority to assume full responsibilities in both the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.
Abdelatty called on all involved parties to adhere to their commitments and avoid actions that might hinder implementation or undermine progress achieved thus far.
The day also saw a statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who rejected the 15-point Gaza plan approved by the Board of Peace, stating that Israeli forces would not withdraw until Hamas was disarmed. Tel Aviv insists that disarmament is a prerequisite for withdrawal, while the roadmap, accepted by Hamas, calls for a gradual and parallel approach to disarmament and withdrawal.
The roadmap outlines a transfer of Gaza's administration to a Palestinian technocratic committee, the deployment of an international stabilization force, putting weapons under the control of the National Committee for Gaza Administration under international oversight, alongside phased Israeli withdrawal and reconstruction efforts.
