Cape town: At least 11 people were killed in three separate shootings in the Cape Town metropolitan area, South African police said Sunday. The South African Police Service (SAPS) reported that investigations have been initiated into the incidents occurring in the townships of Khayelitsha, Langa, and Gugulethu.

According to Anadolu Agency, three men aged 25, 31, and 35 lost their lives in an attack in the Lingelethu West area of Khayelitsha. In a second incident on Winnie Mandela Street in the KwaLanga area of Langa, four men and one woman were killed. A third attack in the Barcelona informal settlement in Gugulethu resulted in the deaths of two men and one woman, while two others were injured, as reported by police.

Additional police teams have been deployed to the sites of the shootings and other locations deemed high risk, SAPS confirmed. Western Cape Provincial Police Commissioner Lieut. Gen. Sizakhele Dyantyi stated that the motive behind the attacks remains unknown and appealed for any information that could aid the investigation.

Dyantyi announced a reward of 100,000 South African rand ($6,185) for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. He highlighted that gang violence and illegal firearms continue to pose significant security challenges in the province.
