Tel aviv: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed a firm commitment to continue targeted killings in the Gaza Strip, despite opposition from Jared Kushner, the envoy and son-in-law of former US President Donald Trump. This disagreement was reported by an Israeli channel on Monday.
According to Anadolu Agency, Channel 15 cited an informed source revealing that there was no consensus between Netanyahu and Kushner regarding the continuation of the assassination operations. The source noted that Netanyahu was resolute in continuing the assassinations, whereas Kushner voiced his opposition to this policy.
The meeting, held in Israel on Monday, included Netanyahu, Kushner, and Nikolay Mladenov, the high representative for Gaza from the Board of Peace. Kushner, who arrived in Israel from Egypt, had previously engaged in discussions with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Khalil al-Hayya, the political bureau chief of Hamas.
The core of the dispute lies in the disarmament of Hamas. Netanyahu has demanded full disarmament of the group before any Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. Conversely, Hamas has expressed a willingness to disarm only if Israel agrees to a phased and orderly withdrawal from the territory. This ongoing contention follows Netanyahu's rejection of a 15-point Gaza plan that proposed parallel disarmament and withdrawal processes.
Mediators are actively working to uphold a ceasefire agreement that commenced on October 10, 2025. However, Israeli violations of this ceasefire have resulted in the deaths of 1,262 Palestinians and injuries to 4,168 others, based on the latest figures from Gaza's Health Ministry.
Since October 8, 2023, Israel's military actions in Gaza have killed over 73,000 Palestinians and injured more than 174,000, predominantly women and children. The conflict has also devastated around 90% of Gaza's infrastructure, raising international concerns over the humanitarian crisis.
